You know what I realized? How much God places the sense of community within each one of us. I've noticed this way more being at Houghton, and being in the atmosphere of living in a type of community where everyone does everything together, everyone lives together, everyone prays together, everyone worships together, everyone laughs together, everyone learns together, everyone grows together. It amazes me how were all so different, and yet so alike at the same time. For example...this week, specifically towards the beginning of the week, everything was crazy for me. I had to do a billion and one things, I had a bunch of meetings, and so on. I found myself laughing at one point because I had been talking to some of my friends, and we all felt relatively the same way. Everyone was a little overwhelmed, and slightly stressed. I find it so interesting how that is. That a lot of the time, when we're going through a temporary phase or having a certain kind of day, we find that a lot of other people are too. I don't think it's coincidence by any means. I know that my Lord's name is all over that. I know that he has good reason for it. I think it's to give us a sense of community. Or when you find a Bible verse or a song that's really been speaking to your deepest needs in your heart, and you realize that a bunch of other people are feeling the EXACT same way you are.
Being at Houghton College is the perfect place to be when your looking for people who are similar to you. I know for me, I have a bunch of friends who are extremely similar to me in a bunch of ways. I'm pretty sure I have about 5 people I call my "twin" because of all the things we share in common, because of all of the things that tie us together.
I can't get over how cool that is. God's amazing. I never feel alone because of the brothers and sisters I have in my life who seem to be going through the exact same things I am, at the same time. And I know thats purely God's workmanship in my life. Thats one way he says, hey! Your not alone. Look at all the people I've placed in your life, for a reason, to be right there with you, on the same page. I love it.
So the next time you find a random similarity, or your dealing with something that someone else is too, don't just say thats cool, and shrug it off. There's a reason for that. Theres a reason for everything. God has reason for community, even if Pres. Mills-Mulls says that word too much ;)
Love, your sister, Emmi<3
